Tunnel Voice
Tunnel voice occurs when your audio sounds hollow, distant, or muffled—as if you’re speaking inside a tunnel. This issue usually means the wrong microphone is being used during a call. For example, your system might default to a built-in laptop mic or a webcam mic instead of your headset.
Symptoms
- Your voice sounds far away, hollow, or tinny to others
- Background noise (like typing or room echo) is loud
- Switching headsets or restarting doesn’t fix the issue
Causes
- Incorrect microphone selected: Your device or browser may be using a built-in or webcam microphone instead of your headset.
- Hardware confusion: Multiple connected audio devices can cause the system to auto-select the wrong input.
- App or browser permissions: The Dialer or Communications Hub may not have permission to access the preferred audio device.
Troubleshooting Steps
Check which microphone is active
- Open your system or browser audio settings.
- Confirm that your headset microphone is selected, not your built-in or webcam mic.
- In the Communications Hub, follow this guide: Manage Audio Settings in Communication Hub
Reconnect your headset
- Unplug and reconnect your headset.
- Wait a few seconds for the system to recognize it.
- If possible, use a direct USB connection instead of a hub.
Restart the app or browser
- Close and reopen the RingDNA Dialer or Communications Hub.
- Refresh the page if you’re using a web-based interface.
Report affected calls
- Submit a Call Report so our team can review the call.
- Choose Call Quality as the issue category.
- Submit at least three call reports with relevant details:
- What did you or the other person hear?
- Was the issue consistent or intermittent?
